A few notes in advance...
I do not know Japanese. I am not translating this word for word with any grasp of the Japanese language. My process has been feeding the text, bit by bit, through various online translators (e.g. Google Translate, DeepL, ChatGPT), and doing my best to take what I believe are the most faithful translations based on my own memory and love for the game. In other words, this is not always a strict, literal translation, though it should all accurately match the meaning and content of the original. When in doubt, trust other sources like the legendary Pmog. If you notice anything you think might be an inaccurate translation or other error on my part, please comment, send me a DM, or bring it up on Reddit, and I would be very, very excited to dig back into it. I’m sure this is not by far going to be a perfect translation, but I am doing this with the goal of forming a final product that I can be proud of and makes me happy. I hope it will bring you happiness too.
All of the written dialogue is from the Japanese version. I grew up with the English version, so for the most part I have changed the dialogue to match the English version, unless I find the differences between the two versions are different enough. In those cases, I include both versions.
Even with the powerful tools of online translators, this is a grueling, tedious process. I will add more when I can. It is my goal to post all the chapters pertaining to the plot, lore, and characters. There are large chunks of the book dedicated to game mechanics. I have no intention to translate those. As far as I can tell, those sections are mostly already covered by other sources like the BradyGames guide and the incredible dedicated players that know how to dig through the game code. If anyone wants me to look for something specific, I will do what I can.
There are nearly 350 footnotes in the story section of Final Fantasy X Ultimania Omega. After a great deal of reading and deliberation, I decided that most of the footnotes were not worth the effort to feed through the whole translation and transcription processes, considering how especially frustrating they are to get translated based on their different formatting. With that said, I will only post the footnotes that I find to be interesting, fun, or contain information that I believe the average fan may not already know.
Below is a checklist of the sections I plan to at least partially translate. There will be overlap with what others have already accomplished for us.
