About 1000 years ago
Zanarkand, using summoning as its main combat method, fights Bevelle, armed with machina (the Machina War erupts) ― Both countries were machina civilizations, but Bevelle, with machina weapons as its main force, was dominant from the beginning. Zanarkand faced inevitable destruction.
Summoner Yevon, who ruled Zanarkand, turns all surviving citizens of Zanarkand into Fayth (the Fayth statues are created on Mt. Gagazet).
Summoner Yevon uses the power of these Fayth to summon Dream Zanarkand, a memory of Zanarkand. He himself becomes Yu Yevon and creates the first Sin (Birth of Sin) ― This first Sin does not rely on the Final Aeon as its core.
☆ Birth of Dream Zanarkand ☆
Sin destroys the abandoned city of Zanarkand and Bevelle, starting the destruction of machina civilizations. At the time, the people of Bevelle believe that what Summoner Yevon summoned from the Fayth of Zanarkand's residents was Sin, and the destruction caused by Sin was seen as a manifestation of Yu Yevon's wrath.
Yunalesca, a summoner from Zanarkand, turns her husband Zaon into a Fayth and defeats Sin with the Final Summoning. Yunalesca remains in Spira as an Unsent. (Only Yunalesca and Zaon escaped the destruction of Zanarkand. Yunalesca decides to use the Final Summoning, knowing that it wouldn't fundamentally provide a solution.)
The survivors begin the reconstruction of Spira, centered around Bevelle.
The second Sin, whose core is Yunalesca’s Final Aeon (Zaon), appears and destroys the remaining machina civilizations. (Sin's destruction of the machina civilizations lead to a trend of abandoning machina.)
The Yevon Temple is established in Bevelle. They adopt teachings that follow the current trends of the world, such as venerating Yunalesca and Zaon and preaching against machina. Through this, they capture the hearts of the people and secure spiritual dominance over Spira.
The Yevon Temple adds the belief that "Sin = Punishment" to its doctrine. At the same time, they spread the story that the Calm will come with the use of the Final Summoning.
Fearing the dissatisfaction of the people who believed in their teachings but saw Sin persisting, the temple takes action. They shift the blame for Sin's persistence to all the people of Spira and leave hope that "Sin" will disappear when "sin" disappears, aiming to bring security to the people's hearts. The spreading of the Final Summoning and Calm story was also to sustain the people’s hope.

It seems that Jyscal is aware of Seymour and his mother going to the Zanarkand Ruins, and secretly supports it.)
